ABSTRACT:
Hard water containing calcium and magnesium ions adversely affects skin by disrupting the barrier function, causing dryness, irritation, and reduced cleansing efficiency. This study aimed to develop a cost-effective pre-bath skin barrier gel to protect skin from hard water exposure. The formulation was prepared using Carbopol 940 as a gelling agent, with glycerin, potassium alum, and jujube leaf extract as key ingredients. The gel was evaluated for physicochemical properties including pH, spreadability, extrudability, washability, and stability. Results showed that the formulation had acceptable characteristics, was non irritant, and compatible with skin pH. A qualitative study indicated reduced dryness and improved skin feel after use. The developed gel offers a simple and effective preventive approach against hard water–induced skin damage.
