ABSTRACT:
The buccal route is a highly advantageous drug delivery method due to its rich blood supply and ability to bypass hepatic first-pass metabolism.the buccal route is a particularly beneficial medication delivery strategy. adhesive buccal patches, thin matrix modified-release dosage forms that are non-dissolving and provide greater bioavailability and patient compliance than conventional oral methods, are the subject of this study. Such devices target certain body locations over extended periods of time by using bioadhesive polymers that become sticky when wet.reservoir-type, which isolates the medication from the adhesive in a separate chamber, and matrix-type, which the drug is uniformly distributed inside a polymer matrix. The active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), mucoadhesive polymers such as Carbopol or HPMC, supporting membranes, and penetration boosters that aid in the dispersion of drugs throughout the body.A number of preparation techniques are investigated, such as rolling, hot-melt extrusion, solvent casting, direct milling, and semisolid casting. To guarantee batch uniformity and efficacy, evaluation metrics such weight variation, thickness, folding durability, surface pH, swelling index, and in vitro drug release are crucial. Emerging technologies like nanoparticle loading and 3D printing provide exciting future paths for customized treatment and improved medication delivery efficiency, despite constraints such saliva dilution and limited absorption area.
